What is Dark Mode?

Dark theme — easier on the eyes, can save battery, and makes everything look noticeably sharper. We build it in by default.

Dark mode is simply a dark colour theme for an app or website. Instead of black text on a white background, you flip it: light text on a dark background. Many apps and phones let you choose, and services can often detect your preference and adapt automatically.

Compare reading a book in a bright window seat with reading under a soft lamp in the evening. Dark mode is that softer evening light for your screen. Many people find it easier on the eyes, especially in dim environments or late at night when a bright white screen can feel harsh.

Beyond comfort, dark mode can also save battery on some modern phones, because dark pixels use less power. And honestly: many people simply think it looks cleaner and more modern.

Why does dark mode matter for your business?

Offering dark mode signals that your digital product is modern and considered. It is a small detail that shows you care about user experience and give people the choice to use your service the way they prefer.

For apps and services people use a lot — especially in the evening — dark mode can be the difference between a comfortable experience and tired eyes. Happy users stay longer and come back more often.

Dark mode in practice

Imagine a company with a customer app that people check in the evening to review their account. With dark mode built in, the app can automatically switch to the dark theme in the evening, matching the phone's system setting. The user avoids a harsh white screen on the sofa and the experience feels thoughtful.

A product without dark mode can feel dated next to competitors that offer it. We often include dark mode as standard because it lifts the overall impression.

Common questions about Dark Mode

What does dark mode mean?

Dark mode is a dark colour theme with light text on a dark background instead of the reverse. It is gentler on the eyes in dim environments and popular with many users.

Is dark mode better for your eyes?

Many people find dark mode more comfortable, especially in dark rooms and late at night. It is partly personal preference, which is why letting users choose between light and dark is best.

Does dark mode save battery?

On modern phones with OLED screens, dark mode can save meaningful battery because dark pixels use less power. On older screen types the effect is small or negligible.
