What is Copilot?

A copilot is an AI assistant that helps you while you work, directly inside the tools you already use. The name comes from aviation's co-pilot: someone sitting beside you who suggests, double-checks and takes load off your shoulders — but you remain the one in charge.

In practice, a copilot might suggest the next sentence as you write, summarise a long document, propose spreadsheet formulas or write code for a developer. The best known is Microsoft Copilot, built into Word, Excel and Teams, but the term applies broadly to any AI assistant that works side by side with you.

The difference from full automation matters: a copilot does not take over — it assists. You keep control and can always reject a suggestion.

Why does a copilot matter for your business?

A copilot can significantly speed up everyday work. Drafts get written faster, summaries take seconds and employees no longer stare at a blank page. It is productivity without learning an entirely new system.

Because a human stays in control, it also feels safer than full automation. You get the speed and help, but a person always approves the final result.

Imagine a salesperson who needs to write a follow-up email after a client meeting. Instead of staring at a blank screen, the copilot drafts a suggestion based on meeting notes. The salesperson reads it, tweaks a line and sends. What took ten minutes now takes two — and the "where do I start?" feeling disappears.
