What is AI Literacy?
How well your team understands AI. Required under the AI Act (Art. 4). We train our clients too.
AI literacy is about how well people in a business understand AI — what the technology can do, what it cannot, and how to use it wisely and safely. You can compare it to a driving licence: you do not need to know how to build an engine to drive a car, but you must understand the rules of the road and the risks to drive safely.
Similarly, staff do not need to become AI experts, but they should recognise when an AI answer might be wrong, know what not to feed into an AI tool, and understand where AI fits in their job. That knowledge is what AI literacy means.
This is not just a nice ambition. Under the AI Act, the EU's AI law, businesses are actually required to ensure staff who work with AI have sufficient knowledge (Article 4).
Why is AI literacy important for your business?
Staff who understand AI use it both more safely and more smartly. They avoid blindly trusting wrong answers, they protect sensitive information, and they find better ways to let AI save time day to day.
It is also a legal requirement under the AI Act. Raising the knowledge level is therefore both protection against mistakes and a step towards compliance.
AI literacy in practice
Imagine an office where everyone suddenly starts using AI tools on their own. Without basic knowledge, someone might paste sensitive customer data into an external tool, or forward an AI reply that contains errors. That is not malice — it is a lack of AI literacy.
With simple foundational training, staff instead know where the boundaries are: what you can and cannot input, how to double-check important answers, and when a human should always make the final decision. We are happy to train both ourselves and our clients in exactly this.
Common questions about AI Literacy
What does AI literacy mean?
AI literacy means your team's level of knowledge about AI — what the technology can and cannot do, and how to use it safely and wisely. It is a requirement under the AI Act for businesses that work with AI.
Is AI literacy a legal requirement?
Yes. Under the AI Act, the EU's AI law, businesses must ensure staff who work with AI systems have sufficient knowledge of the technology and its risks (Article 4).
How do you raise AI literacy in a business?
Usually through simple foundational training where staff learn what you can and cannot input, how to double-check AI answers, and when a human should make the decision. We are happy to help with that kind of training.
